DBEDT’s State Energy Office invites you to attend an all-county agency session to get your input on the online Permitting Wizard currently being developed by the Energy Office, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and contractor, PB Americas. The Wizard is designed to identify all county, state, and federal permits needed for a renewable energy project based on input provided by the user online.
Your input from this session will enable the Wizard to more accurately describe the processes and requirements for each permit, hopefully providing all agencies better prepared and informed applicants. The Wizard will be modified according to feedback received from this session. A questionnaire will be provided at the session for you to take home and return via mail or email at your convenience.
We invite anyone from your agency or other agencies to attend. Please feel free to send this invite to other county agencies or staff members you feel should attend. Maximum participation is desired.

The Permitting Wizard
Information and materials for each permit are also provided, as well as links to the relevant permitting agencies. Please see the Permitting Wizard Screenshots for an idea of how the Wizard works. A live link to test the Wizard will be emailed to all participants a week prior to the July 11 session.
Interactive Tool: The Wizard will be linked to the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI) website administered by DBEDT, as a live tool that can be easily modified by DBEDT should permit processes or requirements change.
The Wizard will be modified according to feedback received from this session.
Future Sessions
In August, we will be conducting similar outreach sessions for professionals in the renewable energy field to get their input on the permitting processes. We are conducting the county agency sessions first in order to make the proper Wizard adjustments prior to the industry sessions. We will also solicit input from relevant state and federal permitting agencies.
